Former President Bill Clinton says Justice Brett Kavanaugh deserved the grilling he got last year over claims of rape and sexual assault, saying it was payback for his role as a junior lawyer on the Whitewater investigation into the Clintons’ own past.

Mr. Clinton, speaking Sunday during an event with his wife Hillary Clinton in Las Vegas, took particular umbrage at Justice Kavanaugh’s role on the independent counsel team when it looked into onetime White House adviser Vince Foster, whose suicide on National Park Service property overlooking the Potomac River shook Washington and spawned theories that he was murdered.

“He didn’t have any problem making us put up with three years of Vince Foster nonsense that was a total charade,” Mr. Clinton said, according to the Washington Examiner.

Justice Kavanaugh faced allegations of sexual misconduct dating back more than three decades during his confirmation hearings last year, but he repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
