Presidential candidate Sen. Michael Bennet said Monday the federal government has to “get stuff done” and get beyond the partisan politics.
“I think pragmatism is important in the Senate because we actually have to get stuff done. I’ve been in the Senate for the last 10 years, and we have not gotten very much done since I’ve been there. We’ve had a politics that has, mostly because of the Freedom Caucus’ tyranny, that’s immobilized the federal government,” the Colorado Democrat said in an interview with CNN’s “New Day” show, referring to the House Freedom Caucus, which consists of conservative lawmakers.
“I think if we go another 10 years like this, we’ll be the first generation of Americans to leave less opportunity, not more, for the people coming after us,” Mr. Bennet said.
“I think we can restore integrity to our government. I don’t think we have to accept the pathetic nature of our partisan politics that we’ve had to endure for the last 10 years or so,” he said.
Mr. Bennet is one of 21 Democrats currently vying to be the nominee to challenge Mr. Trump in the 2020 election.
