ATLANTA (AP) - A Democratic congressman from Georgia has drawn a re-election challenger from within his own party.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports former Cobb County Democratic Party chairman Michael Owens announced Monday that he’ll oppose Rep. David Scott in the 2020 primary.

Scott has held metro Atlanta’s 13th Congressional District since 2003. And he’s never faced a tough re-election fight.

Owens has tried once before. The former U.S. Marine and cybersecurity expert got less than 18% of the vote when he previously ran against Scott in 2014.

Owens says Scott has become too cozy with some Republicans, including Sen. Johnny Isakson, and those bipartisan relationships are “making it harder for us to flip seats here in Georgia.”

Scott’s seat leans Democratic. He won re-election last November with 76% of the vote.
