Presidential candidate Sen. Bernard Sanders criticized President Trump Monday for saying special counsel Robert Mueller should not testify before Congress about his report investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election.

“Sorry, Mr. President, you are not a dictator. In our democracy, when Congress calls on Robert Mueller to testify, he will testify,” Mr. Sanders, Vermont independent, tweeted.

Mr. Sanders was responding to the president’s Twitter thread Sunday where he said Democrats want to interview Mr. Mueller because they’re angry about the results of his report.

“Are they looking for a redo because they hated seeing the strong NO COLLUSION conclusion? There was no crime, except on the other side (incredibly not covered in the Report), and NO OBSTRUCTION. Bob Mueller should not testify. No redos for the Dems,” Mr. Trump tweeted.

The president’s tweet is a reversal from his Friday statement to a pool of reporters, where he said the question of Mr. Mueller’s testimony would be up to Attorney General William P. Barr.

Rep. David Cicilline, Rhode Island Democrat, said Sunday the current “tentative date” for the testimony before the Judiciary Committee is on May 15 if Mr. Mueller accepts.
