ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York state is launching a $175 million campaign to boost workforce development efforts so that industries can attract skilled workers.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the Workforce Development Initiative on Friday. The Democrat says the program will help employers attain their short-term workforce needs while also addressing the long-term needs of growing industries.
Cuomo initially introduced the initiative in January 2018 as a strategy for strengthening workforce development across New York state.
Officials say the state’s 10 Regional Economic Development Councils will play a key role in recommending projects to match their regions’ economic and workforce development plans.
Funding for projects will be awarded in three categories: public-private partnerships to advance 21st century skills, employer-driven skills and workforce solutions.
