Rep. Mark Pocan said Friday President Trump’s discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the Russia investigation was comparable to “treason.”

“Of course you had a very good conversation with Vladimir Putin – you referred to foreign interference in our election as the ’Russian Hoax. Some might say that is treason,” the Wisconsin Democrat tweeted.

Mr. Pocan responded to the president tweeting about the call this morning, in which he described special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia meddling in the 2016 election a “hoax.”

“Had a long and very good conversation with President Putin of Russia. As I have always said, long before the Witch Hunt started, getting along with Russia, China, and everyone is a good thing, not a bad thing. We discussed Trade, Venezuela, Ukraine, North Korea, Nuclear Arms Control and even the ’Russian Hoax.’ Very productive talk,” Mr. Trump tweeted.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin talked “over an hour” about the clashes in Venezuela primarily while Mr. Mueller’s investigation was discussed “very briefly.”
