President Trump applauded the “mainstream media” Friday after The New York Times reported this week that the Federal Bureau of Investigation sent an investigator posing as a campaign staffer into his 2016 campaign.
“Finally, Mainstream Media is getting involved - too ’hot’ to avoid. Pulitzer Prize anyone? The New York Times, on front page (finally), ’Details effort to spy on Trump Campaign.’ [Fox and Friends] This is bigger than WATERGATE, but the reverse,” Mr. Trump tweeted.
The president might have been responding to Fox News’ “Fox & Friends,” who slammed the paper for “breaking” the story and said the network has been covering it for two years.
When referring to the Pulitzer Prize, the president is likely referring to The New York Times and The Washington Post receiving the journalism award for their coverage of Russian influence in the 2016 presidential election “and its connections to the Trump campaign.”
