New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is expected to announce he’s joining the ever-growing list of 2020 Democratic presidential candidates, the New York Daily News reported Friday.
A source told the outlet that the announcement could come as early as Wednesday, which is Mr. De Blasio’s 58th birthday.
The mayor recently visited early voting primary states, including Nevada, Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. His federal political action committee, Fairness PAC, also recently polled Iowa voters, the Daily News reported.
Fairness PAC spokesman Mike Casca told the outlet that “no decision” about a 2020 run had been made yet but wouldn’t deny claims that the mayor would announce his bid next week.
“Very hard to announce something without a decision — nearly impossible, some might say,” Mr. Casca said Friday.
Mr. De Blasio, who said Thursday that he planned to make a decision this month, would be joining at least 21 other Democrats hoping to take on President Trump in the 2020 general election.
