HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - The arraignment of a man charged in the shooting death of a Hartford teen has been put on hold after an altercation in the court.

The Courant reports that relatives of 16-year-old Felipe Lopez tried to rush the defendant, 22-year-old Isaiah Benitez, and were subdued by court marshals.

The victim’s father, Juan Lopez, was heard sobbing and saying, “He killed my son,” after being handcuffed by security officials.

Benitez was immediately taken out of the courtroom and the judge halted the proceedings. He’s being held on $1.5 million bail. It was not immediately known who was representing him.

Police say Felipe Lopez, who lived in Windsor, was found with multiple gunshot wounds Wednesday after crashing a car in Hartford. His family says he was the father of a 7-month-old daughter.
