WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - An 8-year-old girl kidnapped by her mother has been safely returned to authorities.

Wyoming, Delaware, police investigator Lt. Charles Groce tells The News Journal of Wilmington that Jessica Ewing surrendered 8-year-old Mia Funes to authorities Monday.

Authorities said Mia was last seen at her elementary school Friday when Ewing took her in violation of a court order that awarded Mia’s father temporary custody.

The order said Mia was in danger of “immediate and irreparable harm” by Ewing. Groce has said authorities didn’t fear for Mia’s life.

Groce says he was able to contact Ewing Sunday and convinced her to surrender Mia. He says Ewing and Mia spent the weekend with family in Washington, Pennsylvania.

Ewing is charged with interfering with child custody.
