OROVILLE, Calif. (AP) - A Northern California man shot his wife and 8-year-old son to death after an argument and then killed himself, authorities said Wednesday.

Deputies found the bodies at an Oroville home on Tuesday night after the woman’s brother called to say he hadn’t seen her in more than a week, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The man also told authorities that there was a smell coming from the driveway, and before deputies arrived, he called back to say that he could see his sister’s body lying on the floor.

Investigators believe that there was a domestic dispute within the past two weeks and that Francesco Milone, 32, shot his wife, Kaela Steele, 30, and their 8-year-old son, Franklin Milone, the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

“Francesco Milone subsequently took his own life,” the statement said.

Other details weren’t immediately released.

Oroville is a community of about 16,000 people located 65 miles (105 kilometers) north of Sacramento.
