NEW YORK (AP) - Feminist icon Gloria Steinem says New York Mayor Bill de Blasio is one of her top four choices for president and “the only male human being” on the list.
Steinem joined de Blasio at a City Hall rally for legislation that would require employers to provide paid vacation days to their workers.
If the legislation goes into effect, New York City will become the first place in the 50 states to make private businesses provide time off with pay. Tuesday’s rally preceded a City Council hearing on the bill.
De Blasio is among 23 candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for president. He echoed his stump speech when he said the paid time off bill “is about putting working people first.”
