Former Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis says anti-Trump activists who are looking for a “tell-all” about the president this summer will be “disappointed” if they buy his upcoming book.

Random House will publish “Call Sign Chaos: Learning to Lead” on July 16, but the iconic four-star Marine general is already managing expectations among potential customers.

“I’m old-fashioned: I don’t write about sitting Presidents, so those looking for a tell-all will be disappointed,” he said in a statement released Tuesday, The Associated Press reported. “I want to pass on the lessons and experiences that prepared me for challenges I could not anticipate, not take up the hot political rhetoric of our day.”

Random House is publishing the book, which was co-written with Bing West.

“My purpose in writing this book is to convey some of the lessons I learned in 43 years of service for those who might benefit, whether in the military or in civilian life,” the 68-year-old added.

Mr. Mattis resigned in December over foreign policy differences with the president.

“Because you have a right to a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down from my position,” he wrote Dec. 20.
