ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. (AP) - A public library on the Georgia coast is $10,000 richer thanks to a few thousand used books sold during a three-day fundraiser.
The Brunswick News reports the Literary Guild of St. Simons Island raised the money during its spring book sale. The proceeds barely exceeded organizers’ $10,000 goal.
The cash is being donated to the St. Simons Island Library to pay for new books as well as audiobooks, DVDs and magazine subscriptions. Library manager Maureen Hersey says the used book sale has been “a blessing” that’s helped keep the library’s collection current.
George Ragsdale of the Literary Guild says used books leftover from the May sale will be donated to another local group that holds a fall book sale to benefit the downtown library in neighboring Brunswick.
