OPINION:
On May 8, Devon Erickson entered a high school just outside of Denver and shot nine of his classmates and killed one.
That same week, in Philadelphia, Democratic state Rep. Brian Sims went viral for recording himself verbally abusing three teenage girls, as well as one elderly woman, who were praying outside a Planned Parenthood clinic.
This past week, comedian Jim Carrey shared a graphic picture on Twitter of Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey, whereby he depicted the extraction of her brain and her consequent death.
Meanwhile, back in Washington D.C., Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar continue their anti-Semitic tropes and continue to openly align themselves with organizations sympathetic to Islamic terrorism and the destabilization and destruction of Israel.
What do all of these stories have in common?
Hatred of Christians. Hatred of Jews. And hatred of their morality.
Mr. Erickson, for example, had earlier posted on social media his disdain for Christians. He was an outspoken critic of the church’s teachings on issues of sexual behavior and sexual choice. His accomplice in the shooting was a transgendered teen who shared his anger and his views of moral nihilism.
Mr. Sims’ anti-Christian bigotry is palpable. In his recorded attack of four Catholic women, he openly derided their Christianity and claimed these ladies “need[ed] and deserve[d]” his vitriol because of their religious beliefs and convictions. He, like Mr. Erickson, has been very outspoken in condemning the church for its stand on sexual responsibility and moral restraint. Mr. Sims is also a self-described “LGBTQ activist”
Jim Carrey’s “artwork” speaks for itself. Little explanation is needed. He clearly believes anyone standing for a traditional sexual ethic, and the consequent obligation to hold all human life sacred, should not have been permitted to be born or live. Mr. Carrey defines himself as pro-LGBTQ as well as pro-abortion.
Ms. Omar and Ms. Tlaib both traffic in dehumanizing caricatures of Jews. They portray them as “Benjamins” who manipulate the world through deception and the control of money. These two congresswomen and their party stand with LGBTQ activists and LGBTQ activists stand with them and their party in their unified fight against a conservative moral ethic.
On March 4, 2018, I wrote a column for The Washington Times where I said, “If we have decided that self-evident truths do not exist in matters of human sexuality, shouldn’t we be asking what’s next? In our brave new world of hyphens and acronyms, we have painted ourselves into a corner of ’tolerance’ where we must affirm anyone who ’identifies’ as [anything] What is the difference between affirming one inclination and affirming another? In other words, why is an inclination toward anti-Semitism [and any consequent act of terrorism] something we should condemn but an inclination toward a given sexual act is not? On what moral grounds do we normalize one predisposition but yet condemn another?”
When I wrote these words, all hell broke loose and I was roundly condemned by the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Human Rights Campaign and many others from their tribe who indignantly cried that somehow shining a light on the predictable consequences of moral nihilism is one in the same with arguing for the fallacy of moral equivalency. “Piper says ’LGBTQ people need to be condemned just like ISIS,’” they wailed. (One does have to wonder if these folks have ever taken a freshman level class in philosophy or logic).
In spite of the apoplexy of the Left, I am going to ask the question one more time: If you have no moral standard other than your feelings, on what basis do you judge racism, hatred religious bigotry and even murder as being morally wrong? Clearly, Devon Erickson, Brian Sims, Jim Carrey, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib don’t think you can. Their examples should make your blood run cold.
This hatred of the left is inevitable. History has shown repeatedly that any culture without the moral conviction to judge “minor” sins such as sexual immorality is a culture that will not have the moral confidence to judge “major” sins such as hatred, racism and terror.
Any political party that can’t tell you a given sex act is wrong is the same party that can’t tell you killing babies, or even killing adults, is wrong either.
The man who excuses his behavior in the bedroom will be the first to justify his bullying and butchery in the public square. A heart of stone does not miraculously turn to selflessness once it leaves the brothel. It just moves onto the more “glorious” conquests of harassment, riots, bigotry and school shootings.
David did not leave Bathsheba’s bed to write a Psalm. He left it to go kill Uriah.
