MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont House has adjourned for the session and the state Senate will be back at the Statehouse next week.
The session is drawing to a close without the Legislature taking final action on two closely-watched bills: paid family leave and minimum wage.
In a Friday letter to Senate President Pro Tem Tim Ashe, House Speaker Mitzi Johnson gave her fellow Democrats until noon to agree to compromise proposals on paid family and medical leave and an increase in the minimum wage. By late afternoon no deal had been reached. Senators passed a tax bill and a $6.1 billion budget, both of which a majority in the House approved.
House Speaker Mitzi Johnson then adjourned the House for the session.
The Senate is returning to Montpelier on Wednesday.
