When the Washington Mystics kick off their 2019 regular season Saturday, star centerpiece Elena Delle Donne won’t be on the floor with them.

Delle Donne was ruled out for the season opener at the Connecticut Sun with left knee soreness.

The forward originally suffered a bone bruise in that knee last August in the midst of Washington’s playoff run. She missed one game and played the rest of the postseason, including the WNBA Finals, not quite at 100 percent.

Then, Delle Donne reportedly jammed the same knee during practice this week.

The Mystics and Sun play at 7:30 Saturday. It’s unclear whether Delle Donne could return to the lineup on June 1, when the Mystics have their home opener against the Atlanta Dream — which also will be the first WNBA game at the Entertainment and Sports Arena.
