Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee said Tuesday the House Judiciary Committee needs to ensure special counsel Robert Mueller is “comfortable” to testify about his Russia investigation amid reports he’s reluctant to testify publicly.
“Our intent is to get the facts and the truth. I think what is important is to make Mr. Mueller comfortable in the open setting. Obviously there should be many options, there may be an option for an open setting and a closed setting,” the Texas Democrat said on CNN’s “Right Now” show.
“We not only want Mr. Mueller’s attractive presence, but we want the truth and the facts and the basis of Volume II which is that he left many of these issues of obstruction of justice to the Congress. That means we have to do our job, and to do our job it’s important we have him as a witness,” she said.
CNN reported Mr. Mueller’s team is reluctant to have the special counsel conduct a public testimony because he’s afraid of appearing partisan after two years of staying neutral during his investigation.
These worries are causing the hold ups in his testimony, according to sources familiar with the matter.
