President Trump said Monday “The Failing New York Times” will “pass away” following its report that anti-money laundering specialists at Deutsche Bank flagged Mr. Trump’s and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner’s, entities for possible illicit activity.
“The Failing New York Times (it will pass away when I leave office in 6 years), and others of the Fake News Media, keep writing phony stories about how I didn’t use many banks because they didn’t want to do business with me. WRONG! It is because I didn’t need money,” the president tweeted.
“Very old fashioned, but true. When you don’t need or want money, you don’t need or want banks. Banks have always been available to me, they want to make money. Fake Media only says this to disparage, and always uses unnamed sources (because their sources don’t even exist,)” Mr. Trump said.
“The Mainstream Media has never been as corrupt and deranged as it is today. FAKE NEWS is actually the biggest story of all and is the true ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE! That’s why they refuse to cover the REAL Russia Hoax. But the American people are wise to what is going on,” he said.
The report’s author, David Enrich said Mr. Trump’s claims were “not true,” doubling down on his reporting.
“I have spent a long time looking into this, and [Deutsche Bank] was the only bank willing to lend to [Donald Trump] for 20 years because of his pattern of defaults and the bank’s hunger for growth in the US,” he tweeted.
Mr. Trump and his family have sued both Deutsche Bank and Capital One to prevent them from handing over business records to two congressional committees investigating his finances via in subpoenas.
