Sen. Richard Blumenthal called for Attorney General William P. Barr’s resignation Thursday, saying “his credibility was shredded” throughout Wednesday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on special counsel Robert Mueller’s report.
“Perjury depends on intent as much as the substance of a response and I think he ought to be given further opportunity to explain, but it comes very close to the line if it doesn’t cross it,” the Connecticut Democrat said in an interview on CNN’s “New Day” show.
Mr. Blumenthal added he will be looking to Mr. Barr to help protect the country from additional Russian election interference.
“Barr was very dismissive, like his boss, on the continuing threat of Russian attacks on this country. So I would want to know from both Mueller and Barr whether they’re committed to additional measures to stop continuing Russian interference in our elections.”
House Democrats are considering holding Mr. Barr in contempt of Congress after he informed them that he would not attend a House Judiciary Committee hearing Thursday.
