CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire’s child protection agency would add 77 new positions under a bill on its way to the desk of Republican Gov. Chris Sununu.
The House voted 272-87 Thursday in favor of a bill that would expand staffing at the Division for Children, Youth and Families, which has faced increased scrutiny after several child deaths and struggled with high turnover and heavy workloads. Lawmakers authorized dozen of new positions in the last two years, but the agency has had trouble attracting applicants.
The bill, which passed the Senate in February, would cost nearly $8.6 million, with federal funds covering about 30 percent.
In his budget proposal, Sununu called for authorizing 62 new positions at DCYF, but the plan only funded 26 of them to start.
