NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Jack Reed will help dedicate a post office in a small Rhode Island community in honor of an Army captain who was killed in Iraq.
The Rhode Island Democrat is scheduled to be in Saunderstown, where the post office on Sunday will be renamed for Capt. Matthew August.
August was leading the 1st Engineer Battalion of the 1st Infantry Division on a mission to find a cache of insurgent munitions 60 miles west of Baghdad in January 2004 when his unit was ambushed. August, who was 28, and three other U.S. soldiers were killed.
August grew up in North Kingstown and graduated from Bishop Hendricken High School and West Point.
Saunderstown is a village in North Kingstown.
Reed wrote the bill to rename the post office after August.
