NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Yale University is celebrating its 318th commencement with a weekend full of ceremonies that culminate on Monday.
The major guest speaker, by tradition, addresses seniors on Class Day, which will be Sunday, the day before degrees are conferred.
This year’s Class Day speaker is novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, who received a master’s degree from the school in 2008. She was named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in 2015 and one of Fortune magazine’s 50 “World’s Greatest Leaders” in 2017.
Air Force Lt. Gen. James Slife will be the featured speaker at the 2019 Joint Military Commissioning ceremony for Yale’s ROTC students.
The school also will hand out a number of honorary degrees on Monday but, as is tradition, is keeping the names secret until the ceremony.
