CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A Wyoming man accused of killing his elderly mother has been charged with first-degree murder.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported Friday that 48-year-old James Wallace was charged in the May 10 death of 80-year-old Carol Wallace. Deputies were called to a home northwest of Cheyenne on a report that James Wallace was high on methamphetamine and had hit his mother with a hammer.

Investigators say Carol Wallace was found dead in the basement, and multiple bloody drag marks led to the body. An autopsy revealed she suffered blunt-force trauma to the head and chest, a gunshot wound to the head and a cutting wound on the chest.

A call to the Laramie County jail to determine if Wallace has hired an attorney went unanswered Friday night.
