PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix officials are considering launching a pilot program to allow rentable electric scooters in the city.
The Arizona Republic reports the Phoenix City Council is looking at scooter shares after discontinuing its short-lived dockless bicycle program Wednesday.
City spokeswoman Monica Hernandez says the industry has pivoted to scooters, which are currently banned in the city.
The proposed pilot program would require vendors to only stage the scooters in the downtown core and to collect the scooters at night.
The city has proposed charging vendors a $500 application fee, $5,000 for a six-month permit and a 10-cent surcharge per ride.
The program would last six months to a year, allowing officials to collect data and feedback on scooter use.
