GREER, S.C. (AP) - A teen reported missing has been found dead after it appears he was struck by a Norfolk Southern train near the Greer Mill community in South Carolina.

The Spartanburg Herald-Journal reports Greer Police Department spokesman Lt. Patrick Fortenberry said in a statement that 16-year-old Logan Jones went missing about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Century Park. Fortenberry says Jones was struck by the train around 11 p.m.

WSPA-TV reports police had asked for the public’s help finding the teen, considered endangered, earlier that day. Police said he had made threats to harm himself.

After conducting an autopsy, the Greenville County Coroner’s Office ruled that Jones’ death was a suicide.

Greenville County Schools spokeswoman Beth Brotherton says Jones was a sophomore at Riverside High School.
