The left-leaning VoteVets is doing what it can to convince former Marine pilot Amy McGrath to launch a 2020 challenge against Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in Kentucky.

The group has been circulating an online petition urging Mrs. McGrath to take the plunge months after she fell short in her quest for a seat in the U.S. House.

Jon Soltz, chairman of the group, said Mrs. McGrath “is the one who has what it takes to beat Mitch McConnell.”

“She’s a Marine fighter pilot who’s not afraid of much — especially the special interests who will do what it takes to beat her,” he said in an email blast. “That’s why it’s so important she knows we’re with her.”

Mr. Soltz said that more than 25,000 people have signed onto to recruitment push.

“We want her to know that not only do we want her to run, but that we’ll act to support her if she does,” the group said.

Political observers say Mr. McConnell, Kentucky Republican, is well-positioned to win a seventh term after helping to set the table for the confirmation of President Trump’s judicial picks.
