The House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday scheduled a hearing next week for Don McGahn, but it is not clear if he will appear as Congress and the Trump administration continue to slug it out over former and current White House officials’ testimony.
The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21. However, President Trump has said he will block Mr. McGahn appearing before the panel because he already spoke with investigators from special counsel Robert Mueller’s team.
“I’ve had him testifying already for 30 hours and it’s really — so I don’t think I can let him and then tell everybody else you can’t,” Mr. Trump said in an interview with Fox News.
Last month, the Judiciary Committee subpoenaed Mr. McGahn but the White House has moved to block him from producing those documents.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said last week she didn’t believe Mr. McGahn should comply with the committee’s subpoena.
“We consider this to be case closed and we’re moving forward with the work of the American people,” she said.
The committee wants Mr. McGahn to discuss allegations Mr. Trump pressured him to fire the special counsel. Mr. McGahn refused to carry out the request and intended to resign. He later stayed on for almost another year.
