Former New York Rep. Anthony Weiner walked out of a Bronx halfway house as a free man Tuesday after serving his prison sentence for sexting an underage girl.
“It’s good to be out. I hope to be able to live a life of integrity and service. I’m glad this chapter of my life is behind me,” he said, according to The New York Post.
Weiner left the halfway house early, serving 18 months of his 21-month sentence due to good behavior. He is still registered as a Level 1 sex offender.
Weiner’s political career fell apart after he became embroiled in sexting scandals with adult women while married, and was then arrested for sending lewd messages to a 15-year-old girl from North Carolina.
He pled guilty in May of 2017 and called himself a “very sick man” at his sentencing. He began serving his sentence in November of 2017 in Federal Medical Center in Devens, Massachusetts, which offers sex offender residential treatment.
The New York Post reported he is attempting to score a book deal.
