BOSTON (AP) - Gov. Charlie Baker is urging the graduating class of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst to find a purpose in life and pursue it - whether that is marriage, friendship, work, community service or play.

Baker said Friday that the pursuit of happiness is fleeting and misses the bigger picture - while finding a purpose in life will ultimately be more rewarding.

To illustrate the point, Baker spoke about his parents and grandparents who had long marriages despite the challenges they faced along the way.

The 62-year-old Republican spoke little about politics during the speech, instead telling family stories - noting how his mother was a Democrat while his father is a Republican - and how they likely canceled each other’s votes out most elections.
