Attorney General William P. Barr told senators Wednesday that he had “no substantive” discussions with White House officials about open investigations spun out of special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe.
In a fiery exchange with Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Connecticut Democrat, Mr. Barr said he could not recall if he had mentioned names or other innocuous details about federal prosecutors’ investigations into President Trump.
When pressed further, Mr. Barr conceded that he didn’t remember the cases so he could not answer affirmatively. Incredulous, Mr. Blumenthal expressed surprise that he didn’t recall the cases.
Ultimately, Mr. Barr said he did not recall conversations with the White House about the ongoing investigations.
There are 12 ongoing investigations into Mr. Trump in the Southern District of New York and other jurisdictions. Those include a probe into the Trump Organization’s finances and inauguration committee funding.
