CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a Florida teen stole an SUV from a family member and crashed it into a house.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that the crash occurred Thursday night in a Clearwater neighborhood.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office says the teen caused significant damage when he crashed. A witness told deputies that several young people fled the area. K-9 and flight-unit deputies found the 16-year-old driver and a 13-year-old passenger near the scene.

The teen has been charged with grand theft auto, leaving the scene of a crash with injury and violating probation.

Officials say he had just had an ankle monitor removed earlier Thursday after completing a 30-day program.
