GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - Tiana Mangakahia had 25 points plus 13 assists and No. 18 Syracuse made an ACC Tournament-record 14 3-pointers to beat No. 16 Miami 92-85 on Friday in a quarterfinal.
Miranda Drummond added 19 points, Gabrielle Cooper and Digna Strautmane had 15 each and Kiara Lewis 10 for the fifth-seeded Orange (24-7), who lost at home to Miami 84-71 in the teams’ only regular-season meeting. Cooper made five 3-pointers, Drummond four and Strautmane three to go with her nine rebounds. Mangakahia’s 13 assists tied tournament record.
Miami scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to take its first lead since early in the second period but the Orange grabbed it back on a Drummond 3-pointer with just under eight minutes left to begin a 18-8 run to lead by nine after a Cooper 3-pointer with a minute remaining. From there, the Orange made 7 of 8 free throws to hold off Miami. During the nearly seven-minute run, Syracuse was 7-of-13 shooting to 3 of 11 for Miami
Beatrice Mompremier scored 27 points with 10 rebounds, Emese Hof added a season-high-tying 25 points and Mykea Gray had 13 for the fourth-seeded Hurricanes (24-8).
Syracuse took its first lead early in a 31-point second quarter and extended it to 13, 50-37, by halftime. The lead was 15 midway through the third quarter when the Orange began their comeback sparked by six straight points by Mompremier, and Syracuse was within five to start the fourth quarter.
