SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Emergency officials in Utah are warning homeowners of the potential danger of snow sliding off rooftops in what are being called “roof avalanches.”

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the state avalanche center says there were numerous instances Tuesday of large piles of snow falling from roofs due to warmer temperatures.

The center writes on its website that these slides can be especially dangerous for children.

The agency says “roofs will continue to shed their snow” as temperatures rise and asks residents to warn friends and family who do not normally check avalanche forecasts.
