KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The University of Tennessee has mandated training and put new policies in place in response to a recent blackface incident.
Tennessee officials said last week they had learned about a Snapchat photo showing four individuals “we believe to be our students” and that two of them were in blackface. Interim chancellor Wayne Davis said Wednesday one of the Tennessee students whose name surfaced in an investigation of the incident is no longer enrolled at the school.
Davis said the school will require “immediate and ongoing culture competency inclusion and bias training” for staff and administrators. Davis said the faculty senate has passed general education requirements that include global citizenship courses.
Davis also is forming a committee of students, faculty and staff to review the student code of conduct.
