BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - An internal affairs investigation has concluded that 17 Connecticut police officers and two civilian detention officers used excessive force and committed other wrongdoing while responding to a large backyard party in 2017.

A 405-page report by Bridgeport police on the response was released Wednesday to Hearst Connecticut Media as a result of a public records request. It recommends referring the officers to city officials for disciplinary action.

Hearst Connecticut Media reports that investigators found five officers and a civilian detention officer used excessive force. A man at the party said officers punched and kicked him while he was handcuffed.

Two officers named in the report killed themselves in separate incidents while under investigation, but officials say no links between their deaths and the probe have been established.
