FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Sug Sutton scored 10 of Texas’ 14 first-quarter points and finished with 21 to help the 21st-ranked Longhorns beat TCU 62-48 on Tuesday night for the No. 3 seed in the Big 12 Conference tournament.
Texas leads the all-time series 43-3, including 20-3 in Fort Worth. Two of those TCU wins have come under current head coach Raegan Pebley, including a 79-77 victory last season.
Junior Joyner Holmes recorded her third double-double of the season and 12th of her career with 10 points and 11 rebounds for Texas (22-8, 12-6), which has six straight 20-win seasons for the first time since 1999-05. Jatarie White added 11 points and nine rebounds.
White gave Texas the first double-digit lead of the game at 57-47 with 2:02 remaining. It was tied at 31 at halftime.
Jordan Moore had 15 points and eight rebounds, and Amy Okonkwo added 14 points for TCU (20-9, 10-8), which had won nine of its last 13 games. The Horned Frogs were looking for their 21st regular-season win, which would have tied for second-most in program history.
Moore scored 10 of TCU’s opening 19 points and Okonkwo had 12 by halftime. The Horned Frogs were held to four fourth-quarter points.
