President Trump said Tuesday that the 81 letters that have been sent to investigate allegations of obstruction of justice are harassing “innocent people.”

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler announced on Monday that his panel and other congressional committees were sending document requests to probe possible abuse of power and corruption.

On Tuesday morning, Mr. Trump tweeted his disdain for the probe, saying: “Now that they realize the only Collusion with Russia was done by Crooked Hillary Clinton & the Democrats, Nadler, Schiff and the Dem heads of the Committees have gone stone cold CRAZY. 81 letter sent to innocent people to harass them. They won’t get ANYTHING done for our Country!”

The president later tweeted that it was “PRESIDENTIAL HARASSMENT” and that the Democrats were looking for a crime to charge him with.

“The greatest overreach in the history of our Country. The Dems are obstructing justice and will not get anything done,” he wrote. “A big, fat, fishing expedition desperately in search of a crime, when in fact the real crime is what the Dems are doing, and have done!”

Mr. Nadler said the document requests are to “begin building the public record.”

“Over the last several years, President Trump has evaded accountability for his near-daily attacks on our basic legal, ethical, and constitutional rules and norms,” said Mr. Nadler, New York Democrat. “Investigating these threats to the rule of law is an obligation of Congress and a core function of the House Judiciary Committee.”

The House intelligence panel is investigating Mr. Trump’s foreign financial interests as well as claims of Russian interference into the 2016 presidential election. Mr. Nadler’s document requests are all due by March 18.
