Suffice it to say, fans of the Philadelphia Phillies are euphoric the team landed Bryce Harper.
The sports apparel provider Fanatics told ESPN that Harper’s new Philadelphia jersey broke a company record for sales of a new jersey in its first 48 hours of availability, a record set last summer by LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers jersey.
Harper will wear No. 3 in the Phillies’ red pinstripes. He wore No. 34 during his career with the Washington Nationals.
The star slugger and outfielder signed a record $330 million, 13-year contract with Philadelphia last week after about four months of speculation as to where he would sign. The Nationals moved on after offering him a $300 million deal with some deferred money in late September, which Harper’s camp rejected.
Fanatics also said that after Philadelphia, Washington was the second-best market for Harper’s Phillies jersey so far. How curious.
