PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (AP) - A Tennessee man who was shot and wounded by police has been charged with killing his mother.
Alcoa Police Chief David Carswell told news outlets that 18-year-old Johnathon Sellers has been charged with criminal homicide in connection with the death of his mother, 52-year-old Kelly M. Brackin.
Carswell said Brackin was found inside her home Friday morning when officers conducted a welfare check. He said an autopsy Saturday confirmed her identity and determined she died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Authorities say Sellers was shot by Pigeon Forge officers at the end of a police pursuit Friday when he emerged from a vehicle with a gun. Police say he was jailed after being treated at a hospital. It’s not clear whether he has an attorney.
