GLUCKSTADT, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi could be gaining a new city.
The Clarion Ledger reports that the community of Gluckstadt has received a judge’s permission to incorporate. Chancery Court Judge James C. Walker on Thursday set the boundaries for the new city, which is in Madison County.
If there is no appeal, the secretary of state’s office is expected to draw an official map of Gluckstadt and issue a charter with the names of its officers.
Some residents of Gluckstadt have been trying for more than 10 years to turn their community into a city.
Walker allowed the nearby city of Canton to annex some areas it wanted north of Gluckstadt.
