ATLANTA (AP) - Kiah Gillespie had 12 points and 13 rebounds and No. 22 Florida State used a balanced attack to pull away from Georgia Tech for a 64-55 victory to close the regular season on Sunday.
Nausia Woolfolk was the top scorer with 16 points for the Seminoles (22-7, 10-6 Atlantic Coast Conference), who outscored the Yellow Jackets (17-12, 7-9) 17-4 in the fourth quarter. Morgan Jones also had 12 points, Valencia Myers had 11 and Nicki Ekhomu 10.
Despite the turmoil of the past few days when head coach MaChelle Joseph was put on leave with no explanation and two starters did not go with the team for Thursday’s 69-56 loss at No. 15 Miami, the short-handed Yellow Jackets led throughout the second and third quarters and took a 51-47 lead into the fourth quarter before running out of gas.
Florida State scored the first 13 points of the fourth quarter as Georgia Tech missed its first seven shots and had eight turnovers before Jasmine Carson’s layup with 1:27 left made it 60-53. The Seminoles pulled away despite missing all their three 3-pointers and going 6 of 14 from the field and 5 of 11 from the foul line in the last 10 minutes. The Yellow Jackets were 2 of 12, missing all three of their 3-pointers and all four free throws.
Carson led Tech with 14 points, Elizabeth Balogun had 13, Lorela Cubaj 11 and Elizabeth Dixon 10. Kierra Fletcher and Francesca Pan missed their second straight game, along with Joseph. Assistant Mike Simon was the lead coach again.
