Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will meet with President Trump on April 9 to discuss economic and military cooperation and his country’s role as a “linchpin of regional stability” in a volatile part of the world, the White House said Friday.
Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said Mr. Trump and the Egyptian leader will discuss ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and ways to counter terrorism.
Mr. Sisi was elected in 2014 after retiring from a lengthy military career. He won reelection in 2018.
The meeting will occur two days before Mr. Trump welcomes South Korean President Moon Jae-In to discuss ongoing nuclear talks with North Korea.
The visits arrive on the heels of White House meetings this month with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
