LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - University of Wyoming Board of Trustees Chairman Dave True says UW President Laurie Nichols has helped put the state’s only public, four-year university on a “positive trajectory.”

True’s comments in a statement released Friday come after it was announced Monday that Nichols’ three-year contract would not be renewed after it expires in June. She will move to a faculty position. No explanation has been given for the move.

True says the board appreciates Nichols’ service and believes her hard work and that of many others has created a tremendous opportunity for her successor.

He says an acting president will be appointed until a permanent replacement is found.

Students, faculty and staff went before the board on Thursday to express shock and question the decision.
