BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Louisiana State University has launched a $1.5 billion fundraising campaign for its campuses, describing it as the largest such higher education effort in state history.

The university system announced the Fierce for the Future Campaign on Thursday. It’s LSU’s first effort to unite all of its campuses behind one donation drive.

Money raised will support the university’s flagship campus in Baton Rouge, along with campuses in Alexandria, Eunice and Shreveport. The medical schools in New Orleans and Shreveport, the agricultural center and Pennington Biomedical Research Center also will benefit.

LSU says the campaign will seek philanthropic support for six areas: arts and culture; coast, energy and environment; research and economic development; health; education; and leadership.

LSU’s main campus lags many of its peers in its endowment and fundraising levels.
