DENVER (AP) - A federal judge has ruled the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute is not subject to abortion-related requirements under the Affordable Care Act.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reports the judge granted a permanent injunction Tuesday freeing the faith-based institute and its “Family Talk” radio show from adhering to parts of the law due to the organization’s religious beliefs.

The ruling says the nonprofit faced a violation of its rights under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act if it was forced to provide “devices, procedures, or related education and counseling” involving abortion.

The newspaper reports the Colorado Springs institute 69 miles (about 111 kilometers) south of Denver has fought the ACA mandate for abortion-related services and education for the past five years.

Dobson could not immediately be reached for comment.
