President Trump called Thursday for Rep. Adam B. Schiff, chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, to resign from Congress for “lying and leaking.”

This is not the first time the president has shared this unconfirmed accusation. In February, he tweeted that the California Democrat “must be stopped” and accused him of illegally leaking “confidential information.”

“Little Adam Schiff, who is desperate to run for higher office, is one of the biggest liars and leakers in Washington, right up there with Comey, Warner, Brennan and Clapper! Adam leaves closed committee hearings to illegally leak confidential information. Must be stopped,” Mr. Trump wrote, regarding former FBI Director James B. Comey, Sen. Mark Warner, former CIA Director John O. Brennan and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.

Mr. Schiff responded calling the accusations “false smears” and telling the president to focus on something else.

Mr. Schiff has faced calls for his resignation following special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation not supporting his statements there was “plenty of evidence of collusion” with the Russians and the Trump campaign.

“The attacks by Mr. Trump and his allies are not particularly new, and I expect they will continue as long as he is in office, but I am going to continue to do my oversight job,” he told The New York Times.
