SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Hundreds of Savannah city employees will take a break from their normal work to pick up litter as part of a larger public-private effort called Keep Savannah Clean.

Friday’s litter pickup will send workers to 33 locations across the city. To accommodate the effort, a number of city services outside of public safety will be closed.

Keep Savannah Clean is attempting to change Savannah’s attitude about littering with the goal of reducing the amount of litter on Savannah’s streets by 50 percent.

The Savannah City Council recently passed a new anti-littering ordinance, which police will use in its newly launched anti-litter enforcement initiative. For more information, go to www.keepsavannahclean.com .
