Rep. Mike Johnson said Tuesday it would be “silly” for any congressional committee to re-investigate topics covered by special counsel Robert Mueller’s report.
“I think it’s silly for anyone to suggest that any congressional committee here…could find something that Robert Mueller did not in 22 months of investigation, with 25 million dollars,” the Louisiana Republican said on CNN’s “Newsroom.”
He also said Mr. Mueller is “beyond reproach,” adding “Congress has to rely upon the expertise of the people who are not political.”
Mr. Johnson echoed both Republicans and Democrats calling for the release of the full report, adding it needs to be done “within the bounds of the law.”
The four-page summary provided by Attorney General William P. Barr on Sunday said Mr. Mueller exonerated President Trump and his campaign from any collusion with Russia but chose to not make a determination on obstruction of justice.
Mr. Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said the evidence against obstruction of justice is not enough to pursue charges.
