Mike Trout is worth every dollar of his historic $430 million contract, says Alex Rodriguez.
The former Yankee slugger, who knows a thing or two about massive contracts, called Trout “an incredible deal” for the Los Angeles Angels.
“He is the best player in a $10 billion annual business,” Rodriguez told reporters Thursday on a conference call promoting the upcoming new season of ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball.”
“When you invest in the very best, you’re looking for a fair price for a great asset. You’re not looking to pay a great price for a fair asset,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez, who had an often-contentious relationship with the press after signing two record-breaking contracts during his 22-year major league career, called Trout “a tremendous young man.”
Rodriguez is in his second season on the ESPN broadcast, working alongside fellow analyst Jessica Mendoza and play-by-play man Matt Vangersian.
The team returns to the air at 7 p.m. Thursday with the World Series champion Boston Red Sox at the Seattle Mariners.
